Biryani (Serves 4)

Biryani is a rice-based dish made with spices, rice and meat really yummy and really filling.

Prep Time: 30 minutes 
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes

Serves: 4

Ingredients:


  1. 500g / 1 lb goat meat or 1 lb chicken
  2. 7/8 tablespoon canola oil
  3. 5/8 medium onions
  4. 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
  5. 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
  6. 2 (3 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  7. 1/16 cup yogurt
  8. 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  9. 2 whole cloves
  10. 1 5/8 green cardamom pods
  11. 7/8 black cardamom pods
  12. 2 black peppercorns 
  13. 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder 
  14. 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  15. 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  16. 1/2 teaspoon curry powder 
  17. 1/4 cinnamon stick 
  18. 7/8 teaspoon salt
  19. 1/2 bay leaves
  20. 2 dried plums
  21. 7/8 fresh green chilies
  22. 1/2 tablespoon fresh cilantro
  23. 1/4 pinch saffron
  24. 1 7/8 cups basmati rice
  25. 3 cups water



Method:


Put in oven at 180°C for 20 minutes.
Soak rice for half an hour.
Cook in rice cooker with 15 cups of water. Cook rice until almost done.
Fry onions in oil until golden brown.
Add ginger and garlic.
Add chili powder, cloves, cardamom, pepper corn, cumin, curry, graham masala, coriander, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, dried plums, and salt.
Add yogurt.
Add tomatoes and cook until dry.
Add meat.
Add green chiles.
Cook until meat is done and add water if needed.
Add cilantro.
Mix saffron with hot water.
Layer rice and meat mixture and sprinkle with saffron mixture.
